Follow the trail south from Scary Lake, and it will begin to climb steeply over a mix of grass and rock. You'll go through a few tight switchbacks as you continue to climb. Just below the first peak, you'll climb a continuous steep slope partially covered by scree.

As you reach the top, enjoy the view of the ridgeline and to the southwest you can see Rila Monastery. On a clear day, you can see the Pirin range of mountains further to the south. Continue southwest down the steep slope covered in tufted grass to the saddle between the two peaks. Here it is easy to pick up the well-worn dirt trail.

As you continue towards Lovnitsa Peak, the trail climbs steeply again through narrow switchbacks with scrambling necessary at times. At the top, you'll reach the grassy summit of Lovnitsa at 2692m (8832 ft). Follow the ridge directly to the west where the trail descends sharply through another series of switchbacks. Here, you'll cross a moraine region which is often covered with snow throughout July and into August. The trail becomes very rocky and technical as it continues to descend towards the Second Ledge Monument.
