Need to Know

This trail crosses several ski slopes that are packed with snow from late fall through spring. Pack crampons/microspikes for this trail in colder months. At about 1.25 miles into the trail, the grade gets steep and will be covered in snow and ice. Plan extra time for this section in cooler months.

Description

While parking is located either at the base of the Bolton Pond Trail or Balance Rock Trail, the official trailhead for this one is located at Balance Rock Road. Starting off on a tough climb, this trail intersects the Semuhenna Trail and West Side Trail.

Once you reach the top, there are 360-degree views at the summit including the Boston skyline in the distance to the southeast. There are cell towers at the summit, so reception is quite good. If you live in Massachusetts, this is a good place to test out new gear before tackling more demanding adventures.

Beautiful, shaded, quiet forest trail with a nice incline. Surprising to come from forest silence to a child zoo at the top. Trail is muddy in spots. 3.4mi
