Need to Know

Check the Kettle Moraine Trail Line - South for trail conditions (262 594-6202).

Shared trail with mountain bikers and during peak times, Rangers will ask hikers to go to other nearby trails.

Description

This is another great hike in the South Kettle Moraine Forest. The trail was designed for mountain biking, so there are a lot of weird turns and unnecessary switchbacks to cover compared to the nearby John Muir trails.

The trail is mainly singletrack, except for a few rocky and rooty sections and big ridges with tough climbs along the southern part of the loop. Look for the many glacial erratics right off the trail, along with the usual glacial features seen in this area.

The trail climbs, traverses and descends these ancient glacial ridges, which makes it fairly challenging. There are some fun, winding descents, as well as a nice scenic overlook of Spring Lake and Palmyra at the west side of the loop where the Green Loop meets the Muir/Carlin Connector Trail.

Lots of meandering. Good for bikes, but not as fun for hiking. 7.2mi

Not the most scenic trail. Lots of turns and see why it would be fun for mountain bikers. I would rate this an easy/moderate trail 7mi
