Family Friendly
While the initial climb will test your youngsters, they will love the views and novelty of following the ridgeline. Older kids who live at elevation can tackle this trail no problem.
Description
The Rim Trail South has great views of the Elk Range Mountains and connects to the
Rim Trail North. There are often many bikers along the trail, so keep your wits about you, especially in the switchbacks. The Rim Trail South also has a connector to Spiral Point where there is a yin-and-yang platform that looks out to
Capitol Peak and Old Snowmass Village.
At one point along the trail, enjoy an interesting traverse across a loose, shaley hillside. You don't want to slip here!
Flora & Fauna
Be bear aware on this trail, as they often enjoy eating the local berries that grow on the blind side of switchbacks.
