Description

Starting at Discovery Lake Park in San Marcos, this trail combines moderate steepness with restful views. At the top of the 1,644-foot summit, hikers are treated to a spectacular 360-degree view of the North County area. A majority of the trail was affected by the fires, so don't expect much shade. The first mile is paved and then turns into a rougher singletrack. Dogs are welcome!

For an out-and-back hike along this trail the length will be 5 miles with a difficulty of moderate.

About half-way up. Note at the end of the fence, there is a singletrack options. Just watch out for mountain bikers if you go that way.

View looking up at the summit. The steep trail up away from the road has some lose rocks and can be tricky coming down.

Fourth Hike during our RnR with my wife at Lakehouse San Marcos. Drove to the peak, hike down alone to meet my Denisse. I arrived first, she got lost.
