Description

Based on its significance as an ancient Native American village site, this 79-acre preserve south of Hanover, Illinois, was accepted into the National Register of Historic Places.

An earthen ceremonial mound is the piece of this sacred site that is still visible, but interpretive signage along the trail can help visitors imagine what this village might have looked like 1000 years ago. This preserve also now boasts one of the premier prairie restorations in the Midwest.
