Description

This spur trail connects with the Razorback Ridge Trail and winds along the eastern end of the ridge and then up the steep rocky approach to Crows Nest Peak. It is a pretty strenuous climb that peaks at 7800 ft. The views of the Donner Summit area are spectacular and worth the climb.

Flora & Fauna

The west part of the trail goes through lodgepole/fir/Jeffrey pine forest. There are also mountain junipers along the ridgeline. Sierra wildflowers including Pink Star Onion and Mariposa Lilies grow during the summer. The area is the home to deer, ground squirrels, bobcat, martens, bears and the occasional mountain lion. There is a wide variety of Northern Sierra birdlife including large raptors such as bald eagles and osprey.
