Description

The Pogy Notch Trail is characterized by the steep terrain framing the trail, as well as giant boulders that speak to the glacial history of Baxter State Park. In comparison with various nearby trails that lead to peak summits, this trail is relatively flat. The way will be mildly rolling, but the grade isn't steep, and the trail only has about 400 ft of elevation change over its duration.

You'll cross Howe Brook about 2.5 miles into the trail, but that's the only major crossing that you'll come to. This trail continues to a junction with the Center Ridge Trail, near Lower South Branch Pond. You'll have glimpses of the pond on your way. At this point, you'll be following along the western slope of the Traveler, which might give you a bit of a hint about what's to come if you're continuing on.

From the Lower South Branch Pond, the trail levels out, and you'll continue on some slightly rolling terrain until it reaches it end point at The North Traveler Trail.
