Description

The Compass Harbor Trail heads to the former home of George Dorr, one of the founding fathers of Acadia National Park. This is hardly the most dramatic trail near Bar Harbor, but if you're looking for a quiet hike to a secluded stretch of shoreline, it's hard to beat.

The trail starts of Route 3, about a mile south of downtown Bar Harbor. From the small parking area, follow the gravel road. After a short distance the Compass Harbor Trail veers left through the woods. The trail ends at Dorr Point, a rocky ledge that offers nice views of Compass Harbor and the Porcupine Islands. On the way back, consider visiting the ruins of George Dorr's estate, where only the foundation remains.

Gorgeous harbor with tide pools. Beautiful to sit and have breakfast. Would also be nice to sit with a beach chair....there were hardly any people! 0.4mi — 0h 15m
