Description

Holy Schist is a popular trail for mountain bikers, but it is just as popular for hikers and trail runners. The thick forest in this loop makes one feel secluded from civilization, and the mature growth trees through this area have an old spirit, in almost a haunting but beautiful way year round. The trail is an excellent singletrack.

It does not seem to ever suffer greatly from vegetative overgrowth, as the thick trees seem to keep the forest floor under control. However, the trail can be muddy after the spring snow melt. This section has a very respectable hill climb but also has some nice cruising sections. This is an excellent trail for Madison-area residents or visitors to southern Wisconsin.
