Carteret County Wildlife Club

The Carteret County Wildlife Club has been continuously in existence since 1954. We are a 501(c)(3) organization. Our mission is community education about local environmental issues and to encourage people to get outside and enjoy nature. Outings are one of two main features of our club's activities. Canoe trips, hiking, birding, and fish, fowl & animal watching trips. Our second main feature is trail maintenance within the Croatan National Forest in conjunction with the U.S. Forest Service. The 22 mile Neusiok trail, a part of the North Carolina Mountain to Sea Trail System, and the 11 mile Weetok trail are our primary trails.
In 1970 the Carteret County Wildlife Club envisioned developing a hiking trail in the Croatan National Forest. The Wildlife Club and U.S. Forest Service have been working hand-in-hand for 50 years to get this trail established and maintained. Today the 22-mile Neusiok hiking trail runs from the Neuse River at Pine-Cliff south to the Newport river. Trailheads for the Neusiok are at Pine Cliff Recreation Area near Havelock and at Oyster Point near Mill Creek
