Need to Know

This is bear country- always carry bear spray! Stock is not permitted on this trail.

Description

Follow this offshoot trail from Gold Creek Trail #518 (can't miss the turn off- there's a large downed tree with exposed root ball). Up a ridgeline of moderate grade through mostly old burn (2013) and lots and lots of fireweed to reach the namesake lake. As it's implied, insect activity can be high in this area, so bring your insect repellant of choice. There are a few spots at the lake for camping, if desired, and a convenient cross-beam for bear bagging. It is NOT RECOMMENDED to camp amid stands of burned snags.

Flora & Fauna

Fireweed, fireweed, and more fireweed. Small mammals, deer, birds.
