Features Historical Significance

Family Friendly A short trail after walking on the gravel road, with interesting historical signs about the historic town of Bayocean.

Need to Know

No restrooms at the parking area.

Description

The trail begins with an informative sign about the history of the Bayocean Peninsula and the historic town of Bayocean.

Park at the large lot at the beginning of the Bayocean Peninsula Loop Trail and hike north along the closed gravel dike access road. You'll see the informational panels on the left. They tell the story of Bayocean and what happened to the town so that no trace of it exists today.

Follow the trail through the brush and sand to where more wooden markers show where the buildings of the historic town used to stand. There are many user-created trails that weave through the area, so try and keep to the main trail. Elk also make many paths through the dunes and if you follow an elk trail you could be a long time trying to find your way back through the bushes and gorse.

The trail is a short loop that reconnects to the gravel road, unless you take a right and head over the dunes to the ocean.

Follow the gravel road back to the parking area.

Flora & Fauna

Scottish gorse.
