Description

The Lava Canyon Trail #184 starts at the Lava Canyon parking lot. The beginning of the trail (1/2 mile) is a paved stroller path. The paved path ends at a viewpoint with a few informational plaques about the unique rock formations and scenery.

There is a bridge off to the right that is that start of the Lava Canyon Loop Trail. Currently (October 2019), the suspension bridge crossing back across the canyon further down is closed, so beware that if you start the loop trail, it may be an in and out hike.

If you follow the main trail down the canyon, it is not for the faint of heart. It is a dangerous trail with a steep drop off on one side. About a 1.5 miles in, you have to climb down a 30 ft ladder. A good turn around spot is 2.5 miles in at a bridge that crosses back across the canyon. This trail has some gorgeous views and the waterfalls are spectacular! Even if you just hike the stroller path, it is well worth the trip!
