Description

For those looking to discover the Russian heritage, this trail is exceptional as hikers takes a tour of Kiji Island. Kiji is an island in the northern part of Lake Onega. It is a true oasis of wooden architecture of northern Russia. Since the 1950s, this site has become an open-air museum. In 1990, it was inscribed on the Unesco World Heritage List. The center of this group of 89 buildings is the Church of the Transfiguration with 22 silverwood bulbs.

The hike allows visitors to see the most beautiful examples of isbas (a log hut) and other cult and household constructions that date back to different times and were transported to the island from the whole region of Lake Onega. The rugged scenery with rocks covered with moss and northern flowers in the fields create a special atmosphere of the Russian North!
