Overview

A great hike on singletrack trails through rolling hills and diverse terrain.

Description

Start at the springs parking lot and head down the trail. Look out for roots! After 0.8 miles, you can pick which direction to go around the loop (marker 2).

Keep straight on the southern extension and go through woods before coming out into open palmettos. Head back into the woods, and you'll cross a footbridge over a small, flowing spring. Continue on, and you'll come to the main (paved) park road, about 1.8 miles into the trail. If you need to bail out or get water, taking the paved road to the left leads you back to the park entrance, taking the paved road to the right goes to another parking lot about a quarter of a mile down the trail with restrooms and water.

Continue across the paved road and through gently rolling hills. You are almost guaranteed to see deer along this section. You'll come to another footbridge about 2.5 miles in. Lots of recent hurricane damage here has rerouted the trail, and it can be wet after crossing the footbridge, but only for a few steps. Continue on a short distance to intersection with the blue East-West connector trail (marker 28). Turn left (west) here and enjoy a few more rolling hills for another 0.75 miles.

At this point, you'll intersect with the main trail again (marker 10). There is also a trail map mounted at this intersection. You are a little more than halfway through the loop at this point. Turn left (south) to follow more gently rolling hills and woods to the campground. You'll see deer and turkey along the way.

Once you reach the campground, you are about a mile from the finish. The campground is a good spot to grab some water or take a break at a picnic table. Continue past the campground to the main (paved) park road. Cross the road and turn right to finish up the loop back down the short section of trail you came out on.
