Overview
Mainly done in a clockwise direction, this loop offers gorgeous views, especially in the fall.
Description
This loop utilizes mostly singletrack trail that straddles the third fork of Rock Creek and loops back around to the Third Fork Campground. There ascents and descents are gradual.
Starting out, you'll parallel Rock Creek and hike by beaver bonds with high desert mountains all around you. Heading back north, about halfway through the loop, you'll climb into aspen trees and will hike into some snow starting around the end of October usually.
Coming back around as the loop turns to the north, there are three gradual switchbacks that can wear you out if you don't pace yourself. They are not too steep, however, and the view from the top is gorgeous. After the switchbacks, it is a few downhill miles to pick up the pace and finish your hike back at the campground.
The trail is fairly technical but makes for a great loop hike.
Flora & Fauna
