A solid hike with great vistas overlooking the Tahoe Basin, including views on top of Castle Rock and looking down on it.

As of 7/21/2019, there is construction at the beginning of the loop. The loop starts on the other side of the construction, on the northeast side of the the lot.

Overview

Daggetts Loop circles Kingsbury Village and goes along a popular portion of the Tahoe Rim Trail, then back to the parking area along a higher ridge trail that looks down on Castle Rock and the Tahoe basin again.

Description

I asked locals for the best hikes in the area with some good distance. They recommended this one, and they were dead on!

This hike included that and great views as well, probably some of the best in the area. I started along the Tahoe Rim Trail (TRT) toward Castle Rock, and stopped for photos on top of Castle Rock. It's not clear, but you have to go around to the west face of Castle Rock to get on to the top via the Castle Rock Trail.

I then followed the TRT further south, and picked up the Daggett Loop Trail that is east of Kingsbury Village. This trail seemed to be well marked, and easy enough to follow with the Hiking Project mobile app. Stay on the singletrack, and don't follow washouts or service roads.

Heads up: The return loop is essentially all uphill. So take some snacks in addition to plenty of water. I rested and took pictures a lot, so the total time for me was about 4 hours.

Great views of the lake. A little windy. Minimal snow (not a factor). June 2016.

Underestimated the ascent at the end. Probably not the best hike to do the day after doing Mt. Rose. 7.7mi
