Description

The Trough Canyon Trail (163) is one of the area's shorter, easier trails. It also makes for a nice loop by using the southern portion of the Tuerto Trail (011). The most accessible parking nearby can be found at the pull-off across from the Skyline Trail (015).

The Trough Canyon Trail starts off of the Tuerto Trail in the gully just below FS Road 095. From here, it gradually descends through the canyon beneath a series of prominent finned ridges. The stream bed that runs nearby supports a rich collection of vegetation that bolsters the canyon's appeal.

At the one-mile mark, the trail turns to the right to follow a side stream along a winding canyon. The grade steepens from this point, mildly at first, but then steeply over the final push at the top of the canyon. There, the trail intersects with the Tuerto Trail (011), which makes for a nice return trip if you take a right.
