A great out and back hike with great views of the Enchantments waiting for you at the top!

Careful for spring snow on the trail.

Start at the Stafford Creek Trailhead and work your way along the river as you gradually climb. The going felt fast and the trail was maintained. Before you reach the meadows, you'll come to a junction with a trail sign. Continue to the right to stay on the Stafford Creek Trail.

Right before an alpine meadow, there are camping sites where backpackers can set up for a nice evening under the stars. If you're only there for a day trip, continue through the sites and work your way up on the right side of the meadow. You'll get your first views of the pass and surrounding peaks. You won't see Navaho Peak until almost at the pass. At the pass, you'll make a right turn onto the Old County Line Trail, but you'll only follow this trail for a short ways.

Stop at Navaho Pass for views of the Enchantments and a quick bite to eat. To see Mt. Stuart, continue climbing up towards Navaho Peak. Reaching the summit is easily negotiable, but gets steeper than the earlier part of the trail. Some trail descriptions describe it as a scramble, but it was an easy journey up without much exposure. There's a pretty clearly defined route, and the hike will finish on the Navaho Peak Trail.

Once you've enjoyed the summit views and have refueled, return the way that you came to get back to the trailhead and your vehicle.

Make sure to bring water in the dry months as it may be limited.

Be careful of meadows and stay on the trail to protect sensitive vegetation.
