Description

Hickory Creek Trail is the only designated trail in the Hickory Creek Wilderness. This is a foot travel only trail. The loop is 12 miles long traversing over flat to moderately steep terrain.

There is only one trailhead located at the Hickory Creek parking area and the trail is marked with yellow or white blazes painted on trees. The markings are infrequent and often faded, so keep an eye out. Additionally, the trail is only maintained to primitive standards, which results in a lot of vegetation encroachment on the trail along with many fallen trees across the trail.

This trail offers challenges to a wide range of skill levels as it traverses the rolling terrain within the Hickory Creek Wilderness. Fishing for small native brookies can be done in East and Middle Hickory Creeks. These trails are open for winter hiking. Remember to dress in layers appropriate for the weather conditions and be aware that these trails are used heavily in the late fall and spring by hunters. It is a good idea to wear bright fluorescent colored clothing if hiking during these time periods.

Great trail for a single overnight backpacking trip. Lots of access to stream water. If rain is in the forecast, bring a tarp, rain gear and gaiters. 12mi — 6h 00m
