Trailhead: The trail starts on Scriver Rd. which branches from NY 9, 3.6mi N of its junction with NY 73 and 2.6mi S of the post office in New Russia. There is a fishing access parking lot just before the bridge over the Boquet River. Park here, cross the bridge and proceed 150yd on the road before turning L off the road just before the house.

The trail proceeds on the flat for a few hundred yards before climbing to a higher shelf up to the R then, after some more flat going, climbs STEEPLY up to the first lookout at 0.3mi., with good view of Dix Mt. Continuing on, the trail dips briefly and then climbs steadily to another lookout at 0.6mi. Now the grade is easier along the top of the ridge before it dips down and crosses an old lumber road in a small col at 0.8mi. Climbing past an interesting overhung rock, the trail reaches a broad, open area at 0.9mi, with good views of Rocky Peak Ridge and the Dix Range. Just after this ledge, the trail joins and briefly follows an old lumber road before branching L and up to the final lookout at 1.1mi at the end of the trail. The wooded summit of Mt. Gilligan is about 100 yds beyond.
