Need to Know
This route is in Ku-ring-gai National Park which carries an entry fee. There are free BBQs at Resolute Picnic Area around 300m west of the start-point. Parking is at West Head Lookout or at Resolute Picnic Area.
Description
The trail sits within the national park which carries an entry fee. Monitor lizards and swamp wallabies are sometimes spotted off the trail along with a variety of birdlife.
Recommendations:
Bring a picnic to enjoy at one of the beaches. In warmer weather, bring swimmers and towel to cool off. This is a reasonably strenuous trail (due to the uphill sections) so pack water. Most, but not all, of the trail is shaded by the tree canopy so wearing a hat and sunscreen is advisable.
Alternatives:
Whilst this route shows the start/finish at the West Head lookout, it can also start/end at the Resolute Picnic area (around 300m west of the West Head lookout). This might be a handy adjustment if parking is full at the West Head lookout. Also note that the Resolute Picnic area has free gas BBQs--great for a fry-up after your hike.
