Leaving Golden Trout Creek Trail behind, you descend east along the southern edge of a meadow, then briefly crest a saddle and continue along the base of Red Hill to Ramshaw Meadow. Cross Kern Peak Stringer and enter the sagebrush meadow. The trail mostly stays on the sandy southern edge of the meadow. The South Fork Kern River is never far away and you can see the willow thicket fed by the river.

After 3.5 miles, leaving Ramshaw Meadow, you quickly crest a saddle, then head south towards Templeton Meadow. Templeton Mountain is prominently straight ahead. Cross the southern arm of the meadow where the trail becomes faint and reach a junction with Mulkey Meadow to Templeton Meadow Trail to your left and a spur trail leading to Templeton Cow Camp to your right. Continue straight towards the based of Templeton Mountain. As you re-enter pine forest another faint trail joins from the right. Past a low saddle the trail follows usually dry Strawberry Creek until you reach the junction towards either Brown Meadow or Bakeoven Meadow.
