Need to Know

Be prepared for the weather and bring plenty of water. Please stay on the trail, and remember that it is open only to foot traffic.

Description

The trail was built in the fall of 1994 by a grieving community. It began as a footpath made by the families of the firefighters and others who hiked to pay their respects. The trail was built by the Bureau of Land Management, the US Forest Service and over one hundred volunteers to meet the needs of the community.

Flora & Fauna

The trail is not for everyone. It is steep and includes some unstable footing.
The trail allows visitors to experience what it is like for a firefighter hiking into a remote fire. Much of the trail is exposed, so it can be quite hot in the summer. It is not safe during lightning storms.
