Description
There is a $5 per person entry fee to the Bosque, with a $20 fee for the guide service (may be slightly more if you need an English speaking guide). The guard at the gate will direct you to a parking spot, where you'll meet the guide. The hike is slow and easy, with frequent stops to learn about the flora and fauna of the bosque.
As you approach the trailhead, you'll begin the hike by ascending the steps just left of a wildlife mural. Whenever the trail becomes steep, steps, often with a railing, are usually provided. The trail ascends gradually through the bosque, and it will not be long before you see (or hear) the creek, which will be downslope to your left. Along the trail you'll notice several large Ceiba trees, some along the trail and others high on the opposite valley slope.
At about .8 km, the trail will come to a bridge. When the water is low, you can follow the creek bed upstream for a few hundred meters. In the pools, watch for small fish that might enjoy nibbling your fingers, as well as small frogs near the water's edge. If you're lucky, you may even see howler monkey's in the tree tops. Return to the start by returning to the bridge and heading down stream (left) for about .8 km.
Flora & Fauna
Ceiba trees, pechiche, orchids, coatimundi, howler monkeys, agoutis, gray hawks, saffron finches, tarantulas, tarantula wasps, various small frogs and fish
