Need to Know

Beaufort has multiple clean restrooms, and cafes.

Description

Start at the Beaufort church or the Castle (the medieval one, not the renaissance one) and head north on the well-signed route. Past Beaufort, turn east and follow the Birkbach until you reach the Sûre valley.

Turn NNW and follow the valley rim. There are spur trails up overlooks to the right, and caves to the left.

Eventually you'll hit Bigelbach and begin a climb, but it's only 100 meters. South of the village, there's a brief segment on the country road.

When you reach Haupeschbaach, the descent can be a bit steep in places; if it's muddy, slipping here can easily happen.

Continue to the old castle, maybe slow down to admire it, then back to your start.

Flora & Fauna

The forests appear to be mostly oak and beech, with some chestnut and pine. Commonly seen animals are deer, boar and rabbits; foxes and hedgehogs if you're lucky and observant.
