There is no parking available directly at the trailhead. Limited day use parking can be found at the campground entrance.

The trail starts on the east side of North Shore Campground and immediately heads downhill. Cross Rouse Ranch Road, a dirt road popular with motorcyclists, after 150 yards and continue downhill. Views down Little Bear Canyon gradually open up and once you reach a set of switchbacks at 0.6 miles, the view is also less obscured by trees. After the switchbacks, the trail parallels Little Bear Creek, some of the area can be a little muddy or even under water depending on the season. Turn sharply right at 1.9 miles, cross Little Bear Creek, and reach Hook Creek Road.
