Description
The Little Rock Creek trail is rough, to say the least. The trail starts out easy enough, with the first 1/4 mile gently climbing around a shoulder. At the top of the rise is the only view you'll get of the Little Rock Creek drainage pretty much until the lake. Enjoy the steep downhill, knowing you'll be climbing back up it at the end of your journey.
Now you'll be hiking along Little Rock Creek, with plenty of opportunities for water the rest of the way. Even in late July with minimal rainfall and high temps there was a lot of water, often times flowing down the trail. Keep this in mind if going earlier in the year or after precipitation events.
The trail, gradually climbing along the creek, is strewn with large rocks and thick underbrush. It is not easy going. Continue on to the lake, where you'll find a few decent dispersed camping sites. Take in the views, ponder the effort required to summit any of the surrounding peaks, and enjoy the flitting violet-green swallows.
When you're ready, return the way you came.
