Need to Know
The trail can be accessed at either end via SDG&E utility roads. Both of these run east-west and climb up from the bottom of Tecolote Canyon. The south end of the trail can also be accessed from Osler Street via an easement over a neighbor's driveway. You can access the mid-point of the trail near the intersection of Osler and Wheatstone Streets via another easement over a dirt driveway.
Description
From south to north, the trail turns off a utility road and heads north and east behind homes on Osler Street. There are currently no trail signs at either end, although rangers plan to add them soon. This first section of the trail is relatively flat with some small undulations up and down the slope. Just before the mid-point, you'll hike a small wooden bridge that crosses over an exposed drain pipe.
The trail will then circle left around to the north side of the canyon and head west, roughly paralleling Wheatstone Street. This section has a number of short climbs and descents. You'll cross over a new bridge and pass through a couple patches of lush succulents. The grade mellows as you approach the end which is at the intersection of two utility roads. To get back to the main trail through Tecolote Canyon head west on the utility road and drop down to the golf course.
