Description
Open to two-way hiking. Uphill only for bikes.
This trail has long sweeping gains through scrub oak, with punchy switchbacks at the top. Offers great views of Huntsman Ridge and old mine portals, as well as the Redstone Cliffs. The trail terminates at the intersection of Bear Ridge which hikers can take to connect to
Coal Basin Trail to make a loop or for an even longer, higher-elevation out-and-back. Watch for downhill traffic where Sun Trail intersects with the Electric Corridor and Bear Ridge mountain bike trails.
Flora & Fauna
Mule deer, red fox, red tail hawk, abert's squirrel are common. Bear, moose and mountain lion also are found in Coal Basin. Flora include spruce, ponderosa, Douglas fir, gambel oak; penstemon, larkspur, western red columbine and arnica.
