Description

This section starts at Chico Hot Springs with a short road walk west to the East Fork of Mill Creek entering the Absaroka Beartooth Wilderness. The trail then turns north over Mill Creek Pass (9403-ft) and proceeds down the West Fork of the Boulder River to West Boulder Cabin. It turns northwest to pass close to the summit of Livingston Peak before descending sharply into Livingston. Permits are not required. Water is plentiful on most of this section.

This crossing is tough when you are hiking at high water, as my dad and I did last week. If you don't want to get wet, though, you can walk across tree trunks that have fallen across the river.
