Long single day hike to Cloud Peak high country. Easy route-finding with mixture of UTV forest road & trail (until entrance to wilderness). End of day slog up the canyon can be tiring. LOTS of opportunity to fish all along the way. Tons of wildlife sign.

Starting at Hunter TH, quickly divert from forest road onto a cut off trail taking you through 1.5 miles of forest with a couple of creek crossings. You eventually meet up with the forest road again right before entering Soldier Park. Here you follow the road until the entrance to Cloud Peak Wilderness. LOTS Of UTV use through this section and very obvious camp sites abound.

Once into the wilderness, navigation along primarily Solitude Loop Trail #038 remains easy as you more or less follow Clear Creek up the canyon towards Florence Pass. Relatively flat/slow elevation gain for much of the hike. Last few miles in the upper reaches of the canyon turns much steeper and rockier. Lots of talus and boulders, but still a well maintained and easy to follow trail.
