Description

An excellent, purpose built, man-made, hiking trail located at the bottom of Lake Whatcom. Most people will start from the upper parking lot but it can also be accessed from the lower lot after you've completed the Hertz Trail. Either direction is fun and provides a unique challenge.

Both directions start off pretty steep with lots of switchbacks and slowly get slightly more gradual as you work your way up the mountain. Most of the hike is wooded/shaded but, at the halfway point there is a view overlooking Lake Whatcom at the Chantrelle Trail overlook. From there continue upwards toward the top of Stewart mountain. The trail starts behind the overlook and is marked.

Once you've hit the bottom of the trail you'll have to walk a short-section of the Hertz Trail back to the parking lot but, that trail is flat and wide and has lots of swimming access to Lake Whatcom if that is something that sounds appealing.
