Description
The posted signs suggest a counterclockwise direction (better for mountain bikes), whereas most hikers and runners prefer going in the clockwise direction.
From the small pull off along Junction Creek Road, climb up a steep berm to the signed trail junction. Here you'll find the convergence of Logchutes
Downhill,
Downhill,
Logchutes Loop #3 and Westview Loop. Head west over mostly level ground as the trail contours over a former 2 track logging road. The old logging road is only faintly visible, the Westview Loop is now singletrack, somewhat overgrown in places.
There are a few scattered aspen groves and more wildflowers on this trail than in the rest of the Logchutes area. The trail climbs gently in and out of small valleys and ravines before reaching a more level area. Good views to the south and west as the trail tops out and goes through a more densely wooded area. The steep downhill is somewhat loose but mercifully short. The mellow terrain then resumes as the trail winds back towards the starting point with a few more aspen groves and valleys to cross.
