Need to Know

The nearest facilities are located at the Box Canyon Recreation Area trailhead to the north of the trail.

Description

This trail two-track from start to finish and is open to vehicles on the eastern third only. The two-track is a little overgrown and has loose rocks on most climbs, but it is easily followed. The trail along the ridge features great views of the Rio Grande Valley and Magdalena Mountains.

The trail can be combined with the Black Canyon Trail for a loop, or hiked as an out-and-back trail from the east, turning around at the summit.

The descent from the summit to the west is steep and loose. Watch your step if connecting over to Torreon Springs Road.

Flora & Fauna

The Chupadera Mountains are home to deer, elk and big horn sheep. Pronghorn are also frequently spotted at the eastern base of the tail.
