Need to Know

Access road can be rutted and sandy. High-clearance 4WD/AWD vehicle recommended.

Description

The Eastside Trail provides access to the eastern bank of the Rio Grande through the Bosque Del Apache. It follows a lightly-traveled and easy followed refuge service road from the trailhead at the northern boundary of the refuge to it's southern boundary.

The trail largely borders the cottonwood Bosque which is visible to the west, with the high desert of the Little San Pascual Wilderness to the East.

Flora & Fauna

As this bank of the river is only lightly traveled, it is an opportunity to see larger fauna such as javalina, deer, oryx and elk. Quail and turkey are also common.
