Family Friendly Wide, obvious trail along the Rogue River, past marshlands, and then through an oak savanna. Lots of stuff to look at.

The trail is open all year but can be hot in the summer months. The area is open to waterfowl hunting during certain times of the year, so it is advisable to wear a piece of hunter orange colored clothing at those times. There is $5 day use fee for the TouVelle State Recreation Site, payable at the entrance station.

Need to Know

This trail starts from the TouVelle State Recreation Site's back parking lot across a small bridge. This site requires a $5 daily use fee but offers paved parking, toilets, and picnic tables along the Rogue River. This trail has little signage but is relatively easy to follow.

Description

From north end of the parking lot, you cross a small bridge and then follow a straight and obvious trail along the Rogue River for 0.25 mi. At that point, the nature trail turns south (right) while the Denman Interpretive Trail lies straight ahead.

Follow the nature trail south through marshland that hosts (in season) various birds such as great blue herons, green herons, coots, wood ducks, ospreys, mallards, cinnamon teals, Canada geese as well as an occasional beaver or muskrat. There are two benches along here that you can sit on while you look for wildlife. A little farther along, the nature trail turns west and passes through an oak savanna. Towering oaks line the trail all the way back to the parking lot.

Flora & Fauna

Ticks and poison oak are found here during the warmer months. These should not be a problem if you stay on the trail. Long sleeves and long pants will offer some protection if you go off-trail. Try to avoid brushing against vegetation and check yourself for ticks after your hike.
