Description
This portion begins from the Lamoille Valley Rail Trail, at West Settlement Road. It turns left and follows the rail trail for roughly half a mile, before turning right into a field. It crosses over Route 15, then traverses over hills and islands before crossing on the bridge. It crosses over the Lamoille River, which is part of a canoe trail. The trail climbs over Prospect Rock and Roundtop Mountain, before arriving at Roundtop Shelter. Roundtop Shelter is a nice shelter with an awesome western view. The water source is a red hand pump 0.1 miles off the LT.
After crossing over Plot Road, the trail begins climbing up to Laraway Mountain. Much of the trail, here, follows a stream; this area is abundant with different animals. The trail traverses over mountains before it comes out to
Spruce Ledge Shelter Spur. The water source is either at the shelter trail junction or a small sop 100 feet behind the shelter.
Shortly after this shelter, you'll pass through Devil's Gulch. This is a small boulder canyon that forces you through crevices in the rocks. From Route 118, the trail ascends to the fire tower atop Belvidere Mountain. It continues until it reaches Tillotson Camp, where this section ends.
