Need to Know
There is no public restroom at the lookout tower at the top. Vault toilets are available at Boulder Basin campground. No water is available on the trail or at the campground. There is a day use fee for the National Forest. The forest road up to the starting point is quite bumpy and not recommended for low clearance vehicles.
The trail is a maintained dirt road for fire personnel, going from the Boulder Basin campground to the Black Mountain fire lookout tower. The trail is about 0.7 miles one way. The trail starts about 7,300 foot altitude and gains a few hundred feet in the ascent, which could leave some short of breath. Large trees provide shade every few hundred yards.
Flora & Fauna
Lizards, squirrels, chipmunks and a variety of birds. Large pines and spruce trees.
