The temple gate on top of the stairs is open from 6am until 7pm. Outside of those hours you'll need to take the road.

Overview

Climbing the stairs up to the temple is sure to warm your legs up. Catch a breath with amazing views from the temple and then continue on to some nice trails in nature. Some of the trails are technical but as soon as you are back down the hike back to the starting point is easy and relaxing.

Need to Know

The route passes through Wat Prathat Doi Kham, make sure to behave politely.

Description

From the parking lot, start heading up the stairs to Wat Prathat Doi Kham. The stairs are uneven and are fairly challenging, make sure to pace yourself to not burn your legs out because more climbing is coming! You'll arrive at the temple's viewing platform which offers some great views of Chiang Mai and beyond. Take your time to enjoy this special place and make your way through the temple.

Follow the concrete road down for a short distance before keeping right on singletrack. Soon you'll start another challenging steep section up to the ridge of the mountain. From here the trail continues along the ridge. There are some trails forking off left and right, but keep going straight following the GPS track.

At the fork keep left and be careful going down a steep section. Soon you'll need to make a sharp left turn and get on a doubletrack dirt road which you'll follow back all the way towards the parking or the temple.

Flora & Fauna

You may see seasonal flowers, mushrooms, butterflies and birds along the trail.

History & Background

This loop combines nature trails with one of Chiang Mai's local pilgrimage sites. You'll also pass behind Chiang Mai Night Safari, and you may hear roars or other animal sounds.
