Once you come off
Cheryl's Trail, you'll be on Wallis Run Road. It would be best if you can to car shuttle and leave one across the street from here at the
Jacoby Falls trailhead. If you don't, like me you'll have to hike back on Wallis Road for about 1.2 miles back to the
Weitzel Trail.
Overview
Weitzel is a beautiful hike up the Hollow...gorgeous! Lance trail is well maintained.
Cheryl's Trail needs alot of maintenance and I'd NOT recommend doing it at night.
Need to Know
If you'd rather not run or walk back to your car at the
Weitzel Trail, shuttle and park a car at the
Jacoby Falls Traihead, it's just down the road 50 yards from where you cross Loyalsock Creek coming off
Cheryl's Trail.
Description
The hike up Weitzel is GORGEOUS! The trail needs some work as you can tell water must pour down in spring. The creek is to your left heading up the trail, however, I'm certain by the condition in some spots, the trail runs like a creek so be aware there are good and not-so-good sections! Lance Trail is in stellar condition.
Cheryl's Trail ... well, that needs some TLC. Coming from
Lance's Trail, it needs cleared on both sides as the vegetation needs really cut back. The trail itself, the "tread", is in good shape. After that it's blazed fairly well, but more can be added. There are sections that need cleared from blowdowns, one in particular coming down Cold Run Hollow where the trail really narrows inside the tree cover.
There is a large pine tree totally obliterating the trail you have to go around and really, really bushwack to get back to it. Once you approach the Loyalsock Creek, the blazes are hard to find. And be aware...there is NO bridge across the creek. I'd go in this direction for this reason as your feet WILL GET WET!
Flora & Fauna
Mountain Laurel, ferns, hardwoods galore. Deer are likely.
