Need to Know

A backcountry permit is required for overnight stays in Kokanee Glacier Park. Chicken wire is provided for wrapping your vehicle to protect rubber/plastic parts from porcupines.

Description

The wide, easily found trail climbs from the Gibson Lake parking to Kokanee pass before skirting the west side of Kokanee Lake and then descending a bit into Kaslo Lake. The backcountry camping area at Kaslo Lake has 10 sites, a food cache, and outhouse. There is also a cooking shelter (temporarily closed in 2020). Several excellent trails in the park start from the hut at the other end of the lake. There is a $10 fee (2020 price) which is collected nightly at the campground by the resident Parks official.
