Family Friendly There is very little elevation gain throughout the hike. Additionally, children will have a fun time scampering over rocks in both the wash and inside of the slot canyon.

Need to Know

There are no restrooms at the trailhead or along the trail. Orderville, UT is very close and there are cafes, restaurants, and restrooms available there.

Description

Parking at the gate of the water facility, had right (if looking towards the fence ) and follow the trail down to the wash. The bottom of the wash is fairly flat. The wash is sandy with occasional rocks to hike/step over.

Although there is not much elevation change, it is exposed to the elements so on a hot day make sure you take plenty of water and sunscreen. You'll stay in the wash for about a third of a mile. Be sure to look at the rocks you are stepping over as there are fossils to be found and enjoyed. After the first third of a mile, there is a fork. Go left and enter into the red rock slot canyon.

There are a few boulders and tight spots to get over, but none that are more than three or four feet high and they are easily traversed. Eventually, you'll reach a tall wall with a rope hanging over. This does allow you to continue on, however it does require technical ability.

Our very first slot canyon and maybe my favorite hike on our Utah trip. I was amazed at the temperature difference between inside and outside the slot
