Trail is paved with asphalt within the Village of Pecatonica and is paved with crushed gravel outside village limits. Restrooms are at the trailhead in Sumner Park.

Access this segment of the the Pecatonica Prairie Trail via Sumner Park at 232 W. 1st Street, Pecatonica, Illinois 61063.

From the parking lot, head towards the river along the edge of the baseball diamond. The trail continues along the Pecatonica River on the outskirts of the Winnebago County Fairgrounds. Hug the river until the trail intersects an old railroad bed. Turn right onto the railroad bed to stay on the trail. The trail continues for about 1.3 miles through some farm fields before ending at the Winnebago-Stephenson County Line.
