Park is open from 8am to sunset. Park fee is $6 per vehicle. Note that the park does experience seasonal flooding and low-lying trails may be affected by recent rain in the spring and summer.

Overview

At just under 4-miles in length, this loop takes hikers into the heart of the park. You'll get to hike along the river, through dense forests, and have a chance to spot birds and other wildlife along the way.

Need to Know

The park also offers a variety of other activities like swimming, camping, fishing, and paddling. For more info, visit the park's website.

Description

From the trailhead near the park pool, head out on the Rapids Trail. You'll only be on this trail for a very short ways before turning left onto the Baynard Trail. Here you'll cross a suspension bridge over the river. Again, keep an eye open on the left for the entrance to the Seminole Trail; you are not on the Baynard Trail very long before making this turn.

One on the Seminole Trail, you have the option to hike the loop in either direction. Following the route counterclockwise as mapped here will have you heading north into the forest of live oaks, hickories, and, in the wet lowlands, cypress. Along this northern portion of the loop there are a couple primitive campsites for visitors who might like to plan an overnight stay (note: you'll need to make reservations and dogs are not allowed to stay overnight at the sites).

At the western end of the loop, the trail will meet back up with the Hillsborough River and you'll wind through the woodlands near the river for the remainder of the loop. This is a great area to spot wildlife and birds. This also can get a bit muddy/flooded after rain, so be aware that the footing may not always be dry. Once back to the end of the Seminole Trail, retrace your steps across the river and back to the trailhead.
