Overview

This is a hike to the highest peak in Singapore! It's a walk in the primary tropical forest with lots of ups and downs, sometimes on uneven steps. It's a good cardio workout for most people.

Need to Know

Limited parking during weekends and public holidays due to the high number of visitors. It's a very popular place. Trail is mostly shaded. Lots of ups and downs on stairs and paved and unpaved paths.

Description

The Bukit Timah Nature Reserve is a small 1.64-square-kilometre nature reserve near the geographic centre of the city-state of Singapore. Located on the slopes of Bukit Timah Hill, Singapore's highest hill standing at a height of 163.63 metres. This route goes around different parts of the Bukit Timah Hill. Most of the trail is shaded as there are many tall trees.

Flora & Fauna

Monitor lizards, monkeys, birds, colugo, and snakes are commonly sighted. Primary tropical forest.

History & Background

Due to its strategic location and being the highest point on the island, during WWII, Japanese military took control of Bukit Timah Hill shortly after arriving in Singapore. They set up their HQ at the nearby Ford Factory.
