The Nevado de Cachi at 20,932 feet is the ultimate goal of these segments.

On day-three we departed the farm and headed up the valley in the direction of the high camp. The hike was generally on vague livestock and wild animal pathways. Most of this was rocky with tufts of hard vegetation. There were a number of boggy sections that could be crossed easily by stepping on vegetation tufts.

On each side of the valley the surrounding hills rose quite high, some snow covered.

The destination, called Pichi Camp, was an area with several spots of sand/gravel cleared enough to accommodate our communal and two-person tents. A stream flowed along the entire pathway providing a water source that we were able to use to filter and boil since there were a lot of animals in the area.

Along the way we passed both a sheep/goat corral and a llama farm. The dogs accompanying the mule handlers flushed a number of water fowl along the way.
