Description

This natural preserve consists of marshes, huge active rice beds, lagoons, and roads cutting through, allowing easy access. You can park at the entrance, or drive along the road and park along the side, to start and end your hike according to your interest and schedule. There are many water and shore birds during every season. To the south and west are lovely mountain ranges, and up close you can see the scenic British colony houses all painted white and hugging the steep sides of the nearby hills.

Flora & Fauna

In partially or permanently flooded areas throughout the year, there is a great diversity of birds (whiskered tern, swan, ducks, herons, squacco, rails, coots, etc.), fish (with valuable endemic and protected species) and plants, such as cattails and yellow lilies.

There are several protected, endangered or endemic species, such as the whiskered tern, the Valencia toothcarp, river prawn, the marbled teal, squacco heron, the horned owl, the European pond turtle and the blenny, among others.
