This section of unpaved trail is wide enough for maintenance vehicles and is an easier hike through the woods. At the south end of this segment is an old log house with some informational signs describing the historical significance.
The Main Trail loop begins at the Nature Center and wraps around the perimeter of the hiking area for a total of 6.5 rugged miles. Many connecting trails and unpaved vehicular trails interconnect, and each trail intersection has a lettered sign post to help hikers maintain their bearings. It's easy to shoot off on the wrong trail, so pay close attention as you approach trail intersections.
This hike may be best done in the winter as it affords more views of the lake and avoids challenges of overgrown trails.
